Sustainable construction of laboratory buildings
First laboratory building certified
Basic research is carried out in the rooms of the MPG research buildings with different uses. Experimental halls, laboratories, offices and administrative rooms are housed in a structural and functional building structure. For evaluation, these are divided into differentiated zones and defined with real boundary conditions (air exchange, usage times, room temperatures, etc.). Successful certification proves the responsible use of resources and ensures that the buildings meet high safety standards.
The BNB is an instrument for planning and evaluating sustainable construction projects by public clients. As such, the MPG is subject to the catalogue of criteria published by the Federal Ministry for the construction of laboratory buildings at its locations throughout Germany, so that their quality can be assessed for sustainability. Taking economic, ecological, socio-cultural and functional aspects into account, three Max Planck Institutes have already been awarded based on the special features of the buildings' use.
