Climate-optimized construction for research

Building for public clients and therefore for the MPG is subject to high requirements. The biggest challenge is how research buildings can be built in a climate-optimized manner and operated in a climate-friendly manner after handover to the user.

The focus is on

  • Avoiding demolition and new construction
This reduces CO2 emissions. A holistic renovation of existing buildings saves resources. Waste and raw material consumption can be reduced through conversion.
  • Designing future-proof buildings and campus structures
This is how we promote a sustainable, healthy working environment.
  • Integrating climate-resilient aspects into the planning stage
This means that climatic changes can be absorbed without subsequent structural or additional energy changes.
  • Switching to fossil-free energy supplies
This may make it possible to cushion the sometimes very high energy requirements of research facilities with renewable energy sources. For example, by further reducing the energy consumption of research buildings through insulation measures and adjusting the system technology.

Climate-optimized construction for research therefore means constructing buildings that enable researchers to meet the highest expectations placed on them in a conducive working environment with regard to the research being conducted there. In addition to the technical requirements for research, the equipment of the rooms, the on-site possibilities due to the location and terrain, and the needs of the people working there must also be considered in order to design the building accordingly.
